A Slightly Early March Prayer Letter

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of praise notes this month: My visa extension was finally approved after several months of delays, and I was given three more years! Thank you for your prayers. Meanwhile, there have been some really good conversations happening in my English Bible studies lately. In last week’s class, one lady straight-up asked “How do I believe in Jesus?” — which led to a great opportunity to share the Gospel with her and the others. She hasn’t yet put her faith in Christ, but is clearly searching. Please pray for her and the rest of my English students.

Here are some other prayer points to keep in mind in the coming days and weeks:

  • I’ve started translation work on another Bible-based manga (comic) book. (Japanese to English)
  • This Friday, March 2, is our monthly English Cafe.
  • March 3-7 I’ll be in Tokyo for the Immanuel Church annual conference. This is a transition year, so please pray for the denomination as they elect a new president and leadership team. Pray too for the churches that will be going through transitions in the coming weeks, after pastors have received their assignments at conference.
  • This month’s English Bible studies are on 3/8 and 3/18 and I’ll be leading worship on 3/14. (EDIT: Moved to 3/21)

Thank you again for your continued prayer and support for me and our partners here in Japan!

February Prayer Letter

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a good January. This past month I’ve been getting back into the swing of things and trying to plan for the rest of the year in the midst of many unknowns. Your continuing prayers are appreciated as I navigate a year of many changes. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please check out the newsletter I sent last month, which you may have missed:

Last Sunday was my final visit to Kyoto-Nishi Immanuel Church, where I’ve been filling in every-other-month for fellow GP missionary Andrea Swarthout, leading their English Bible study. This time I also got to preach in their morning service. There are a number of seekers attending their English program and even Sunday worship, so please remember them in your prayers. Andrea is planning to be back from Partnership Development in April, so pray for her support raising and travel safety too.

Meanwhile, I’m still working with immigration to extend my work visa to stay in Japan this year. Please pray for the rest of the process to go smoothly, as there have been some delays and bumps on the road this time.

Here are some ministry dates in February to pray for:

  • 2/2 — English Cafe
  • 2/8 — English Bible study 1
  • 2/14 — Leading worship at prayer meeting
  • 2/18 — English Bible study 2

Thank you for your prayers and support for our ministry here in Japan!

December Dispatch (prayer letter)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your prayers throughout November!

Recently we’ve been having some really productive conversations about the future of GP’s ministry here in Japan. Please continue to pray for God’s leading as we discuss a couple of potential projects that will help us build a bigger platform here. I’d also ask you to be in prayer for the busy Christmas season. Christmas is a popular holiday even here in Japan where it’s technically not even a holiday, let alone a religious one. It’s a great opportunity for churches to reach out with the love of Jesus.

Now for some specific praise and prayer points…

November Praise Points:

  • Safety and health through many travels and meetings.
  • I no longer have to wear a cast on my toe.
  • A productive visit with our regional director.
  • Good English Bible studies in Nagoya and Kyoto.

December Prayer Points:

  • 12/1 — English Cafe in Nagoya
  • 12/9-10 — Preaching, music & kids ministry in Yamaguchi
  • 12/13 — Leading worship at Nagoya prayer meeting
  • 12/17 — More preaching & Christmas ministry in Gifu
  • 12/17 — Nagoya Church Christmas event (without me)
  • 12/21 — Christmas party for my kids English class
  • 12/24-1/6 — Christmas vacation in Canada!

Again, thank for you continuing prayers and financial support! I hope you have a great Christmas season wherever you are!

November News (prayer letter)

Hi everyone,

The above photo is from October’s English Cafe. As you can see, we were few in number this time (the weather’s been a bit “typhoony” lately) but we had a good time. I appreciate your continuing prayers for my English ministry, as we continue to make connections and point people to Jesus.

In other news, I broke a toe last week. It’s a minor injury, but is definitely slowing me down a bit. I’d appreciate your prayers for a quick recovery, especially as I’ve got lots of travelling ahead of me in November and December.

Here are some other prayer points for November:

  • Our new GP regional director Tim Gallant and his family are visiting Japan (11/10-16). Please pray for us as we talk about the future of our mission in Japan and meet with our partners here.
  • 11/8 — Worship leading in Nagoya
  • 11/19 — English Bible study in Nagoya
  • 11/26 — English Bible study in Kyoto
  • Also, please pray for me as I prep for the busy Christmas ministry season.

And, in case you missed it, please check out the newsletter I sent out last month: Click HERE to view, download or print.

Thank you as always for your prayers and support!
